Eating Disorder kills model

I've been doing a project on Anorexia Nervosa in Psych, and I became re-interested in it and the effects it really has on a person.

After reading this article, what do you think? Do you blame the Isabelle for her death? Or her stressful job? Or both?

  1. I don't blame Isabelle for her death. Isabelle's eating disorder and surroundings killed her. When people see the archetype that society wants, people start to feel sick and feel the need to something about it. The article mentions other models that have died from being pressured to be picture perfect. It’s ridiculous how anyone in the fashion industry gets pressured into believing that perfect is necessary and the only way to be the star. I think Isabella and other people who are in or going to be in the fashion or modeling world, need to understand that there will be pressuring. Models need to understand that even though there many shapes and sizes, a majority of people will most likely favor a skinny-attractive model.

  2. This is absolutely terrible. There are no other words to describe it. The fact that she could be driven to view herself through such a destructive scope when she was only 13 years old is so awful and it makes me wonder how we could be driven to a point of thinking our only option is to waste away. How many times do we have to hear the “wrong thing” before we unwind and believe that there is nothing left for us? I definitely do not believe that her death was her fault. She spent such a long time fighting her disorder and trying to raise awareness about it protecting individuals who struggled with the same issues. I think the cause of her death far surpasses the stress of her job, rather it was a combination of how her mother viewed her and how that reflected into society’s perception of her. She was constantly trying to please someone that had raised the bar to high to reach and it drove her to these extremities. A person can only take so much cynicism and criticism before they burst and that was sadly her downfall.

  3. It wasn't Isabelle's fault for her anorexia. Being a model in the fashion industry is a tough job and having a mother who always tell you you're fat is even worse. In society, girls are always trying to look like the girls in the magazines; skin and bones. What they don't realize is that they are hurting the people around them by constantly being hospitilized and also, men don't find that attractive. I honstly feel bad for Isabelle because she tried to gain weight and eat more foods. She also tried to raise awareness for doing the "No-Anorexia" billboard. I feel like models should be at a healthy weight and look realistic. Too many girls think that being skinny is beautiful but most of the time it's just unattractive and scary.
